A co-worker introduced Laura to Sparrow Freedom Project. She quickly began to appreciate and admire their work providing services to trafficked persons and increasing awareness in the community. While attending various outreach opportunities, Laura’s interest in a board position grew. In early 2024, Laura joined the SFP board with a willingness to assist in moving their mission forward, bringing an additional direct services aspect to the team.
Laura is a credentialed advocate who graduated from Oakland University with a degree in criminal justice and a double minor in psychology and sociology. Laura has an
additional associate degree in mental health and social work, which provides a solid foundation for her service work. Laura serves as the Victim Assistance Program Supervisor for a local non-profit that provides mental health and advocacy services to the public. As part of her service journey, Laura is a member of a number of human
trafficking task force teams throughout the state of Michigan and works hand in hand with trafficking survivors. In her supervisor role, Laura works directly with general crime and trafficked individuals, providing direct services and case management in a victim-centered, trauma informed approach. Laura’s passion for the well-being of people fuels her desire to help victims of human trafficking and persons in distress.
When not advocating for victims and survivors, Laura spends time with her family, photographing her loved ones and the nature around her.
